Got everything to work with the GA-X79-UD3, including audio. Even managed to get some over clocking, based on the figures you mentioned for LGA2011 and 4930k. Now what I run into, is that when I select shutdown from the Apple menu, the screen immediately turns gray and even after a couple minutes will not turn off the power. Any suggestions where to look?
Turning off Spotlight did not help, but I think I found the problem. Somewhere along the way I had changed ownership of my system disk in the Finder to myself. So when I did a shutdown I got this message in the console log:
20/08/14 19:57:02,521 shutdown[618]: SHUTDOWN_TIME: 1408557422 521416
20/08/14 19:57:02,526 com.apple.kextd[12]: Can’t create kext cache under / – owner not root.
So I did a ‘chown root /’, rebooted and then the system would shut down properly. So now I will turn on Spotlight again, redo the OC settings and hope everything will still shutdown nicely.
Just finished building a X79 UP4 4930k system, first of all thank you RAMPAGEDEV for your great work! I have a GTX 670+ GTX 285 in there, 670 shows in sys profiler in slot 1 but GTX 285 dont say slot number…OSX seems to default to GTX 285 as default boot display even if slot 1 is chosen in bios and display is connected to the 670. Do i have to put the the GTX 285 info in the SSDT ? How?
Thanks
Sidenote: UP4 is a good motherboard with a crappy BIOS so dont expect stellar overclocks
how can i map out other slots, i have currently a GTX 285 in slot x16_2 Also if i plan to add some SAS Raid card in x8_1 will i have to map it too…or it only apply to grafx cards ?
I think it depends on your CPU. The 3930k has problems but the others are good as far as I know. I am sure Rampagedev will give you better advice, but you could try ssdtprgen by Pike.
Hi
Im thinking about builing a hackmac with at least a sixcore xeon cpu to run davinci resolve on. Is there a motherboard you can recommend for this? I already have a 1366 socket sixcore xeon on a asus p6 t se motherboard that runs mountainlion and works really good with resolve. I am thinking the new stuff today must be fantastic and so much faster and better than the 1366 socket mobos and cpus.
Thanks
Hi rampagedev there is no dsdt in gigabyte x79s-up5 files there is only ssd.aml my alc898 no work but it was worked with you dsdt.aml files. Can you help me pls
Hi there. Just wanted to let you know that this method is so far working brilliantly. I am running a X79 UD3, 8 core 16t Xeon E5 v2 and the only thing I need to do is npci=0x2000 GraphicsEnabler=Yes. I am also running a MSI GTX 480 Lightning in the second X16 PCIE slot. The boot loader did not seem to work so I am still booting from the USB, but that should be easily fixable. Many thanks again for this. Multibeast was failing to install the Voodoo part which was killing the install.
Thanks for the reply ! In the end I installed Chameleon boot loader and added the flags to the plist and now I have a fully functioning mac ! the only thing we could not get working was the onboard sound, but I had a XFI pro USB lying around and it worked immediately. All sorted now thanks again !

Test without oc. Is this with clover or Cham?
Same result with OC off.
My system does this from time to time. Try turning off spotlight for your drives.

Cham, I’m not really comfortable with Clover yet.

Because I only map out Slot 1.

GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3 MotherboardHow to make USB 3 on this motherboard?
Works OOB. Uses Apples drivers.
GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3 Motherboard Is it possible to make it spidstep?
No. Due to a BIOS issue PM can not be obtained. Some users have had some luck on older BIOS but this is not recommend.

Woops, just saw x79 and that this is old already. That is what happens when I use my phone for emails.

If you change the setting for GE in the boot Plist you can boot properly. Never us any multifail tool ever. Just use what is on the dmg.

Awesome guide works perfectly for my build:
i7 4930k cpu
nvidia gtx 770 2GB!
